Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce Announces Collaboration with Running Start to Incubate Startup Companies Founded by Recent Worcester Area College and University Graduates
Higher Education-Business Partnership launching StartUp Worcester to provide support and space for the region’s young talent.
Worcester, Mass.—President and CEO Timothy P. Murray announced today a new initiative by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Higher Education – Business Partnership to help incubate new businesses while at the same time retaining entrepreneurial college graduates.
“Access to a well-educated and trained workforce always ranks near the top of the list when companies are deciding where to locate and grow,” stated Mr. Murray. “We want to retain these bright young entrepreneurs and encourage them to grow their business here – where they have access to everything they need to succeed.
The Chamber is partnering with Running Start, a non-profit coworking space and business incubator on Prescott Street in Worcester, to award 12, full year memberships to both organizations for recent graduates of Higher Ed-Business Partnership member institutions. In addition to the benefits of membership in Running Start and the Chamber, both will create and promote monthly events for the StartUp Worcester members. Events will be focused on specific topics that assist the start-ups such as seminars on product launches, networking events with venture capitalists or intellectual property attorneys, expert faculty from our campuses, and other events that support these young entrepreneurs.
Ryan Leary, co-founder of Running Start is excited about the idea, “At Running Start our goal is to provide a collaborative workspace for entrepreneurs, startups, and innovative minds. Complementing this with access to the Chamber really takes these members to the next level. Access to the programming and connections they offer is invaluable.”
To reach out to potential graduates who may be interested, the Chamber and Running Start are working with member colleges and universities through the Worcester Student Government Association, career services offices, alumni affairs, and innovation and entrepreneurship departments and faculty.
