Worcester Green Corps

The Worcester Green Corps (WGC) is a new partnership program of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, the City of Worcester, and the United Way of Central Massachusetts, established in May of 2021. As Worcester experiences new levels of economic development and investment, it’s in everyone’s best interests to ensure the city is clean and inviting to residents and visitors alike. WGC is a collaborative effort to keep Worcester’s streets and green spaces clean and beautiful on a year-round basis. By formally establishing this year-round program, WGC partners aim to augment existing cleanup efforts by leveraging the involvement of the business and nonprofit communities to assist in implementing beautification and environmental best practices throughout the city.

Included in this year-round effort is a summer career pathways program. For six weeks, 25 high school students involved in the Worcester Community Action Council’s (WCAC) YouthWorks program are out around the city Monday through Thursday participating in litter cleanups and other beautification projects. The 25 students are broken into five groups of five, with one group assigned to each of Worcester’s five districts. Each group is overseen by one district manager, and the whole program is overseen by the Worcester Green Corps Coordinator, Miranda Hotham. Then on Fridays, these youth visit different organizations and businesses in the city to learn about green initiatives and get exposure to a variety of educational pathways and environmental careers.

Worcester Green Corps is an official chapter of Keep Massachusetts Beautiful.
