WORCESTER REGION

Manufacturing Roundtable – Area Educators Networking Event (free, invitation only) will be held on October 27 from 4-7 p.m. The panel discussion and networking session is designed to engage member manufacturers with the administrators and guidance counselors of schools in the region. This program will help promote manufacturing in the region and help better inform school personnel in the region regarding the opportunities that exist in a manufacturing career. The event is being held at Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Norton Hall, 1 New Bond St. in Worcester.

Design it, Make it, Ship it Panel Discussion at Game Changers Business Conference

Moderated by Bowditch & Dewey Partner Bob Cox, panelists Steve Goodman, founding partner of GFI Partners and Steve Rothschild, CEO of Applied Interactive, will discuss Worcester’s transformation from making wire cables, textiles, and a variety of other goods to manufacturing tools used in space exploration, biotech research, and more in a session titled “Design It, Make It, Ship It”. BLACKSTONE VALLEY REGION

OCTOBER 7: The placement of 2-3 high school seniors and juniors at each participating small local manufacturer for an intensive one-day exposure to manufacturing, with a focus on the entry level jobs available and the skills required to be hired for those jobs. It is anticipated that 6-8 small manufacturers will be participating in this program.

OCTOBER 22: BVEF will again co-sponsor the popular Blackstone Valley S.T.E.M. Conference along with Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Middle school students and teachers from ten school districts are planning to attend the full-day learning experience on the Tufts University campus in Grafton. Some of the recent manufacturers to participate include Raytheon, EMC, Intel, and Microsoft. This year’s participants will be confirmed by September.

OCTOBER: Shuttling 10 students and two teachers each Wednesday, beginning next week, on the 12th, 19th and 26th from 8:30 AM to 2PM, to three manufacturers in the Blackstone Valley for tours to introduce them to careers in the manufacturing field. Participating Manufacturers include: Lampin Corp, Package Steel Systems, Interstate Specialty Products and Wyman-Gordon Company in North Grafton. Participating High Schools include Uxbridge, Milford and Blackstone-Millville Regional.

OCTOBER 18 & 27: Middle school student program will happen with 42 students and three teachers from participating BV middle schools on October 18th to Waters Corporation in Milford and again on October 27th to St. Gobain in Northborough. All of these tours include lunch with wrap up sessions, Q&A and facts about careers in manufacturing from Department heads with the participating partners.
